Bloomfield Dispensary Gets Tentative OK To Sell Recreational Marijuana

A medical marijuana dispensary in Bloomfield may become one of the first in New Jersey allowed to sell cannabis to the general public.

BLOOMFIELD, NJ — A medical marijuana dispensary in Bloomfield may soon become one of the first in New Jersey allowed to sell recreational cannabis to the public.

On Monday, the New Jersey Cannabis Regulatory Commission approved applications from seven medical marijuana companies who want to expand into the recreational cannabis business. Once they pass inspections and are issued licenses – possibly within a month – the companies will be able to conduct retail sales to the general public in 13 dispensaries across the state. Among them is GTI New Jersey, which runs medical dispensaries in Bloomfield, Paterson and Paramus under the name RISE.

RISE plans to offer recreational cannabis at its Bloomfield and Paterson facilities, while keeping Paramus medical-only, according to a spokesperson for Green Thumb Industries, its parent company.
