Bloomfield DWI Checkpoint Yields 37 Summonses, 5 Arrests

Bloomfield police chose the checkpoint location "in response to a disproportionate number of drunk driving incidents" in the area.

BLOOMFIELD, NJ — Bloomfield police issued 37 motor vehicle summonses and made five arrests at a DWI checkpoint on Labor Day weekend, authorities say.

Bloomfield police set up the checkpoint at Bloomfield Avenue and Conger Street between 11:15 p.m. and 3 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 3, under the command of Lt. Gary Peters, assisted by Sergeants Joseph Corio and Sergeant Luca Piscitelli, and including uniformed officers Salvatore Cordi, Anthony Nardiello, Meijun Pascua, Jonathon Donker, Nicolae Toader, Timothy Kealy, Suzanne Looges and Daniel Jean-Baptist.

During the operation, police stopped a total of 148 vehicles, issuing 37 motor vehicle summonses, and making five arrests for driving while intoxicated, drug possession and contempt of court.

Police impounded three, allegedly unregistered vehicles during DWI encounters as part of the operation, authorities said.

Bloomfield police previously stated that the location was chosen “in response to statistics demonstrating a disproportionate number of drunk driving incidents in the area.”
