Bloomfield Garbage Vendor's Truck Is Broken: Township

Find out what to do with your garbage while Future Sanitation replaces its truck, according to Bloomfield town officials.

Bloomfield, NJ – Bloomfield is having issues with its garbage vendor, Future Sanitation… again.

Township officials shared the latest complaints against the vendor – which took over collections in Bloomfield a few years ago – via a series of social media posts.

The latest – issued on Tuesday afternoon – states that one of Future Sanitation’s garbage trucks broke down due to the cold weather.

“They are attempting to replace the truck as we speak,” township officials stated. “Please note that Future will make every attempt to pick up your garbage in the Tuesday route before 6 p.m. If your garbage is not picked up today, please leave it at curbside and it will be picked up tomorrow morning (Wednesday).”

On Dec. 29, the Bloomfield Public Works and Parks posted the following message:

“On behalf of Future Sanitation, our current garbage vendor, we apologize that the Tuesday garbage route was not completed. This happened due to a couple of their trucks breaking down, in addition to them spending extra time in the route due to the excessive garbage from the holidays. Please leave your garbage out at the curb if it was not picked up today. The garbage company has guaranteed us that they will complete both Tuesday’s and Wednesday’s route tomorrow by 6 p.m. Thanks for your patience and understanding, and if you have a DPW related Issue, or service request, please call us at 973 680 4127 or email me at anesto@bloomfieldtwpnj.com.”

The PWP posted an update on the situation the next day:

“We have been in contact with Future Sanitation, the township’s garbage vendor, all last night and this morning and as of 11 a.m. they have guaranteed us that both the Tuesday and Wednesday garbage routes will be completed by 6 p.m. this evening… We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused, and we truly appreciate your patience with this matter.”

In July, after several Bloomfield residents started reporting that their homes were being skipped for garbage collections, Bloomfield Director of Public Works and Parks Anthony Nesto told Patch that the township had seen a “noticeable drop off in service” from Future Sanitation.

“We’re not used to this,” Nesto told Patch in July. “I’m not happy with it. It’s not the way that things roll around here. And unfortunately, it’s a black eye for my department or the engineering department, even though it’s an outside vendor.”

“I told them that they were on double secret probation,” Nesto said. “They understood what we want. They know that we’re going to have zero tolerance on this.”
