The Township of Bloomfield is excited to announce that representatives from the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP) will be present at the Bloomfield Community Farmer's Market on Tuesday, August 29th, from 3:30 PM to 6:30 PM to provide information and gather insights from the local community about the forthcoming 9-mile public Greenway project that is set to span across Essex and Hudson County.
"We believe that community involvement is essential in shaping projects that directly impact our residents," said Mayor Michael Venezia. "This event will provide a platform for our residents to voice their opinions, offer suggestions, and help shape the development of the public greenway. We are grateful to NJDEP for their partnership in facilitating this valuable exchange of ideas."

The Greenway is an approximately nine-mile, 100-foot-wide linear corridor spanning Essex and Hudson Counties through eight municipalities (Montclair, Glen Ridge, Bloomfield, Belleville, Newark, Kearny, Secaucus, Jersey City). The New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection acquired this property from Norfolk Southern on August 19, 2022 with a vision to convert this blighted corridor into a thriving recreation and transportation corridor traversing two of the most densely populated Counties in New Jersey – and in the nation. The Greenway will connect residents to parks, schools, hospitals, and business districts, in addition to offering commuters a way to bypass some of New Jersey’s most congested roadways, while serving as a catalyst for environmental improvements and economic development in the adjacent communities. It stands to become a destination unto itself as a place for exercise, recreation and access to the great outdoors.
The presence of NJDEP representatives at the Bloomfield Community Farmer's Market serves as a unique opportunity for residents to learn more about the greenway project and its potential impact on their lives. During the event, attendees will have the chance to engage in meaningful discussions with the representatives, ask questions, and share their thoughts on how the greenway can best align with the needs and aspirations of the Bloomfield community.
