BLOOMFIELD, NJ — Did you recently find a “WARNING” summons on your car in Bloomfield? It’s part of the BPD’s ongoing bid to protect local car owners from crime.

Last week, the Bloomfield Division of Public Safety issued a notice about the BPD’s eye-catching effort, which involved placing “warning summonses” on the windshields of parked vehicles with unlocked doors or valuables left in plain sight.

Bloomfield police explained the effort on social media:

"Some of our residents may have noticed a 'WARNING summons' placed on their windshield while they’re parked in front of their home or store. These are not summonses that require you to pay a fine. They are simply acknowledging that we have noticed that your doors or windows are left unlocked or valuables left out in plain sight."

The BPD continued:

“Our Community Policing Unit has been working hard to keep you safer! If WE notice that your vehicle is not secure then that means a criminal notices as well. Please remember to ALWAYS LOCK YOUR CAR DOORS AND HIDE ALL VALUABLES when parked!”

Last week’s warning hasn’t been the only recent BPD effort to keep local vehicle owners sharp. As part of an ongoing social media campaign, on July 2, the BPD wrote:

“Most people are on their way home from a long, hot day at work so we want to take this opportunity to remind you double check your handles before you go inside... always lock your car doors and keep windows rolled up!”
