Bloomfield Shooting Claims East Orange Man’s Life: Police
"This was not a random attack and did not involve Bloomfield residents," Mayor Michael Venezia said.

BLOOMFIELD, NJ — An East Orange man was found dead in his car on Ampere Parkway in Bloomfield on Saturday night after an apparent fatal shooting, authorities say.
Bloomfield police officers discovered Juan P. Santos-Martinez, 55, of East Orange, in a vehicle on the 200-block of Ampere Parkway. Santos-Martinez was suffering from apparent gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead on the scene, according to the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office.
The Essex County Prosecutor's Homicide Task Force and the Bloomfield Police Department are conducting an investigation into the death. Anyone with information can call the prosecutor's Tips Line at (877) 847-7432.

Bloomfield Mayor Michael Venezia posted a statement about the shooting on social media at 9 p.m. on Saturday:
“While details are still emerging it appears that both the victim and the assailant were residents of East Orange and were traveling through Bloomfield when the incident occurred. Our thoughts are with the victim and his family at this time. The Essex County Prosecutor’s office has taken over this investigation but I would like to thank the Bloomfield police department for their efforts. Residents, please be advised this was not a random attack and did not involve Bloomfield residents. Sadly, our town has been a victim of this incident as well.”
