16-Year-Old Bloomfield Girl Killed in Car Crash

A 16-year-old Bloomfield High School soccer player died on a September night in car crash that left four others injured.

Christina Lembo was seated in the back of a 2007 Honda Civic when it was involved in a car crash with a 2000 Chevrolet Camaro at the intersection of Broughton Avenue and Walter Street in Bloomfield, according to a press release from the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office. Lembo was transported to University Hospital in Newark, and was pronounced dead a short time later, the release said.

The corner of Broughton Avenue and Walter Street fell completely silent on Sept. 30, as hundreds of Bloomfield High School students paid tribute to one of their own in an awesome display of Bengal pride.

Holding candles and bouquets of flowers, some teens loudly sobbed while others stood quietly in prayer at the scene of a horrific car accident that claimed the life of 16-year-old Christina Lembo, a well-liked soccer star and Bloomfield High School student best remembered for her smile.

Bus Fatally Strikes Man at Bloomfield Intersection

An unidentified pedestrian was struck and killed during a July morning by an NJ Transit bus on Bay Avenue near the intersection of Broad Street in Bloomfield, the Essex County Prosecutor's Office has confirmed.

Joseph G. Rossi, a longtime Bloomfield business owner and former Bloomfield resident was shot dead in his Floyd Avenue arcade and video store in February, according to the Essex County Prosecutor's Office.

Rossi, 58, owned Phoenix Amusements at 105 Floyd Avenue, next door to Pete's Placeconvenience store.  He was a resident of Verona.

Ryan Lanza was at his job in Manhattan when news outlets began to report that he had massacred 20 school children in a sleepy Connecticut town.

Driver Chargedin Death of Bloomfield Teen

A Bloomfield man has been charged with vehicular homicide in the death of 16-year-old Christina Lembo, according to the Essex County Prosecutor's Office.

Nicholas M. Camasco, 23, was the driver of a 2000 Chevy Camaro, who was sitting in the backseat of the Civic. She was pronounced dead at University Hospital in Newark a short time later.

Fate of Pit Bull Overshadows Bloomfield Town Council Meeting

A small protest outside Town Hall was followed by a confrontational public session at a September township council meeting, when a group of citizens demanded an explanation as to why the Board of Health rejected a home for a dog named Memphis.

Bloomfield Man Killed in Parkway Crash

A Bloomfield man was killed in November in Irvington after he lost control of his vehicle while driving north on the Garden State Parkway, according to NJ State Police Sgt. Brian Polite.

Marcus Findlay, 23, was pronounced dead on the scene, as was his passenger, Patricia Edmond, 27, of Union.

$1 Million Memphis the Pit Bull Lawsuit Dismissed

A judge threw out Friday a $1 million civil action lawsuit against the township of Bloomfield that would have brought Memphis the pit bull one step closer to being adopted.
