Discolored Water In Bloomfield Is Due To Newark 'Cutting The Flow', Town Says

Does your water have a weird color, Bloomfield? Here's why.

Editor’s note: The Township of Bloomfield issued the following advisory on Thursday.

“On September 9, the City of Newark, who provides Bloomfield Township with potable water, had to cut the flow from North Jersey District Water Supply Commission and increase the flow from Pequannock water system which caused changes in the pressure and flow rate creating disturbances within the Bloomfield distribution system. These actions by Newark resulted in discoloration of the potable water for a portion of our customers. It is anticipated that this disturbance will settle and the water will return to normal. This issue is not being caused by any problems or issues within the Bloomfield distribution system.

“Discolored water in and of itself is not a health concern, however, it is recommended that your refrain from drinking or using the water to wash clothes. It is further recommended that you let your taps run for approximately thirty minutes or until the water runs clear again. The water will then be appropriate to use or consume.
