The Bloomfield Public Library is pleased to present a panel discussion of African American Genealogy on February 12, 2011 at 10am. Members of The Montclair African American Genealogy Meetup Group will speak on the topic and answer questions from the audience.
The African American Genealogy Meetup Group was started to share information on how to research one's family tree through various sources such as the census or DNA. The... group's name is Sankofa, a Ghanian word that means "go back." Sometimes you have to return to the source before you can fully appreciate your own uniqueness; "It is not wrong to go back for that which you have forgotten." Some of the members of the group are beginners; some have had many years of research. They have come together to support each other in their efforts. Each has an area of expertise and will share their individual unique experiences using various resources which include records, databases and DNA.
This is a wonderful opportunity to get started on your own journey of exploring your roots. Please join us.
