AUDITIONS for Next to Normal at 4th Wall Theatre

4TH WALL ANNOUNCES AUDITIONS FOR

NEXT TO NORMAL

(Bloomfield, NJ) – 4th Wall Theatre will hold open auditions for all roles in the musical Next To Normal, the Pulitzer Prize- and Tony Award-winning musical by Brian Yorkey and Tom Kitt.  The musical will be directed by Kate Swan with music direction by Markus Hauck.  The show will be presented at The Westminster Arts Center in Bloomfield, NJ, where the company is in residence.  Rehearsals will begin in late August, and the performances are scheduled for October 5, 6, 7, 12, 13, 14.

Next to Normal tells the story of a suburban mom suffering bipolar disorder stops taking her meds, and the fallout forces her and her family to confront memories they have each avoided.  This musical will have you asking, “What is normal?”  

Auditions are scheduled for Wednesday, July 18 and Thursday, July 19 at 7:00 pm.  Sign up begins at 1/2 hour prior to the audition start time, and anyone auditioning must arrive no later than 8:00 pm.  All auditions will be held at the Westminster Arts Center, 449 Franklin Street in Bloomfield and is easily accessible by train or bus from Manhattan.  Call backs will be held on Friday, July 20 at an assigned time, if required.

We are seeking 6 very strong singers/actors.  All roles are open.  Non-traditional casting will be strongly considered.  Prepare two contrasting 32-bar contemporary musical theatre songs that show off your voice in the range and style of the character(s) you are auditioning for.  Bring sheet music in your key.   An accompanist will be provided.    Also bring a headshot and resume stapled together, and be prepared to provide all potential conflicts for evening and weekend rehearsals beginning August 1.  Small Stipend / Non Union production.

 Characters:

Diana, The Mother (30s-40s) (Alto with belt/mix to F) - Sexy, Sharp, Delusional bipolar depressive.

Dan, The Father (30s-40s) (High Baritone/Tenor to A) – Handsome, Genuine, Constant, Tired.

Gabe, The Son (17-18*) (Rock Tenor to B) – Dashing, Gentle, Bright, Playful.

Natalie, The Daughter (16*) (Alto with belt/mix to F) – Trying to be perfect.  It’s not going well.

Henry (17*) (High Baritone/Tenor to A) - Natalie's musician boyfriend, Romantic, Stoner, Slacker, Philosopher King.

Dr. Madden/Dr. Fine (High Baritone/Tenor to A) - On the young side of ageless.  Assured. A Rock Star.

(*note - Gabe, Natalie, and Henry should all be played by actors 18-30 who can play teenagers)
