Less than six months after the Declaration of Independence, the exhausted and retreating Continental Army was near defeat.  General Washington (Jeff Daniels) was low on men, cannons and supplies but risked everything to cross the Delaware River on Christmas night to surprise attack a Hessian garrison at Trenton. This A&E film won a Peabody Award for excellence
