Ex-Bloomfield Woman Arrested, Shot East Orange Pastor In Newark: PD
Police arrested a former Bloomfield resident who is accused of shooting an East Orange pastor at his home in Newark.

ESSEX COUNTY, NJ — Police have arrested a former Bloomfield resident who is accused of shooting an East Orange pastor at his home in Newark, authorities announced Thursday.
Deidre Moses, 28, of Las Vegas, Nevada, and previously of Bloomfield, has been charged with aggravated assault and other offenses in connection with a shooting that took place on Aug. 24, 2023.

According to the Newark Department of Public Safety:
“At approximately 1:30 a.m., police responded to the 40s block of North 4th Street on a call of a shooting. Responding officers located a man who had been shot while inside a residence after suspects fired at the home from the outside. Before the shooting occurred, the victim heard an altercation outside the residence involving individuals vandalizing a vehicle parked in the area. The suspects fired a weapon, striking the home and injuring the man.”
One of multiple bullets fired into Huff’s home struck him in his chest, shattering his sternum, puncturing his lung, and damaging his kidney and heart, his family said in a GoFundMe campaign.

Huff, a pastor at Green Pasture Missionary Baptist Church in East Orange, is a “well-known philanthropist and a loved husband, father, grandfather and brother,” his family said.
Newark detectives investigating the shooting identified Moses as a suspect and obtained a warrant for her arrest. She was taken into custody on Dec. 14 in Las Vegas, authorities said.
Moses has been charged with aggravated assault, unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose and criminal mischief.
