Bloomfield Woman Is Suspect In NJ Pastor’s Shooting, Newark Police Say

A pastor and "well-known philanthropist" in East Orange was shot at his home in Newark. A warrant has been issued for a suspect in the case.

ESSEX COUNTY, NJ — Newark police have issued an arrest warrant for a Bloomfield woman who is a suspect in the shooting of a pastor from East Orange, authorities announced Tuesday.

According to the Newark Department of Public Safety, Deidre Moses, 28, of Bloomfield, has been identified as a suspect in connection with a shooting that took place in Newark on Aug. 24.

One of multiple bullets fired into Timothy Huff’s home on the 40-block of Fourth Street around 2 a.m. struck him in his chest, shattering his sternum, puncturing his lung, and damaging his kidney and heart, his family said in a GoFundMe campaign. Learn more or make a donation here.

Huff, a pastor at Green Pasture Missionary Baptist Church in East Orange, is a “well-known philanthropist and a loved husband, father, grandfather and brother,” his family says.

The bullets went through the living room wall and hit Huff in the chest while he was sitting on the couch, ABC 7 News reported.

Delois Hudson-Huff, who is married to the wounded pastor, said he used his body to protect her when the bullets started flying, CBS New York reported.

Prior to the shooting, a group of young women damaged a car belonging to one of the pastor’s sons, his family said. The shooting was captured by a nearby surveillance camera, which showed two young women at the scene. One of them can be seen firing a weapon before running away, News 12 New Jersey reported.

Huff remains hospitalized in critical condition, authorities said Tuesday.

Detectives investigating the shooting have identified Moses as a suspect. A warrant has been issued for her arrest.

According to Newark police, Moses is 5 feet 5 inches and 120 pounds. She has a tattoo on her chest of the word “Ram” (see photos below).
