Man Accused Of Threatening Bloomfield Cops While Trespassing

He was charged with making terroristic threats, aggravated assault on a police officer and disorderly conduct, authorities said.

BLOOMFIELD, NJ — Bloomfield police arrested an Essex County resident after he allegedly threatened officers during an encounter inside a parking garage last week, authorities said.

According to the Bloomfield Police Department, officers responded to the Lackawanna parking garage on Nov. 3 after getting a report about a group of people “wandering” inside and smoking.

Police found a group of four people at the scene and conducted a record check, while also checking the garage for signs of vehicle burglaries. While the officers were trying to get the information, one person – later identified as Khalil Jones, 27, of Orange – allegedly began to threaten the officers.

Jones then tried to push past the officers and allegedly punched one of them when they tried to stop him. The officer wasn’t injured, police said.

Bloomfield police said that Jones and the other three people at the scene – Newark residents ranging from 18 to 23-years-old – didn’t have a “legitimate purpose for being in the parking garage” and arrested them on charges of trespassing.
