Mom's the Star This Sunday - Here's How to Celebrate

No matter what you do for Mom, this Mother's Day is perfect day to spend time together

It’s Mother’s Day, and if Mom’s still here – well, more on that in a moment.

For one of the most special days of the year, how about some cute, nice things to do with your special Mom?

▪ Flowers

I’m going with a Bloomfield legend here and, yes, you can pick up some flowers for Mom at the , but why not make a nice day of it and have her select some herself? Located on the corner of Broad and Bay Streets, Brookside Garden Center is run by the O’Boyle family, and it carries a huge variety of seasonal plants and flowers.

Here's another idea. How about a nice walk in Brookdale, Brookside, or another of our township's lovely parks? The best thing? Your beautiful Mom amongst the gorgeous flowers and beautiful springtime growth and nature. A great time for photos that she (and you) will cherish.

▪ Dining Out

A great thing to do on Mother’s Day. Executive Chef Ryan Depersio and are offering both regular menu items and specials this Sunday. Depersio also praises his Mom, and pastry chef, Cynthia. “I wouldn't be doing this amazing job if it wasn't for my mom! She has directed me into doing what I love and I can’t thank her enough! So she really deserves all the love I receive for my cooking!”

, a traditional favorite in town, is offering a Mother’s Day brunch with seatings at 12, 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 pm. The special menu consists of a choice of six appetizers, second course of salad, and a variety of entrees. A special children’s menu is available as well.

▪ Coffee

While there are a number of Starbuck’s and Dunkin’ Donuts nearby, why not support a small business coffee shop? at 373 Broad Street has been around quite a while. It’s tiny, and the perfect spot to take Mom for an early bite to eat, sip and discussion, especially about what makes her so special. If not here, recommended is the or, the old favorite, .

▪ Shopping

If your Mom loves to shop, here’s a nice idea perhaps in addition to flowers and dining. Bloomfield Center is the destination, and is the spot for designer clothes, shoes and accessories at great prices. For the latest in trends, jewelry and handbags and purses, is another must-visit.

In closing, I’ll say this. Flowers and dinners are nice – they really are – but what your Mom really wants is time with you. And this is coming from someone whose Mom passed away in 2007.

I can’t pick up a phone and call my Mom, or dine with her on Mother's Day and give her a card. But if your Mom is still here, make some time, and make it a wonderful day for her.
