Unico award ceremony and pancake breakfast October 10

Bloomfield schoolchildren were honored today in the 17th Annual Columbus Day Celebration.  Unico, the largest Italian American organization in the US, presented awards to fouth grade students who won a Christopher Columbus-themed essay contest.

Presenting the awards were Paul Alongi, Chairman of the Columbus Day ceremony and Bloomfield Unico President Dominick Ferrara.  Local officals were also in attendance, including Mayor Raymond McCarthy who made a speech praising the students for their work.

After the ceremony, which took place at 10:00 am on The Green, the award winners and their families had a special pancake breakfast in their honor at the Bloomfield Parks and Recreation building on Broad Street.
