RELAY FOR LIFE: "The Admin Angels of Hope"

Superintendent Jason Bing says he's proud of the team's efforts, which has raised $5k -- and counting-- to fight cancer.

“One of my principal’s daughters was diagnosed with a brain tumor.  She was only two or three years old.  Miraculously, she made it.  She brought “Relay for Life” to our district,” said Bloomfield School Superintendent Jason Bing in a recent interview with Patch.

With a “Relay for Life” event planned for Bloomfield, the school district has spent the past few months gathering a team together and raising money.  As of today, September 22, the team has raised over $5,000 for cancer research, while the township as a whole has raised well over $40,000.  The “ADMIN ANGELS OF HOPE” will attend tomorrow night’s event at Bloomfield High School headed by team captain, Kathy Francesco.

“The money came from pledges, donations and a garage sale,” said Scott Collins, Operations Manager for the Bloomfield School district.  “There are about ten women on the team.  What we’ve seen from them is team spirit, camaraderie, determination – and a real competitive streak!”

Collins said the team has been excited to watch their donations growing.  They are awed by the generosity of the community.

“We can log in and see the numbers growing,” he said.  “It’s put a great happy spirit into the building.”

In addition to the garage sale, which raised between five and six hundred dollars, the Admin Angels have worked tirelessly to prepare for the event.  “Their kids have gotten involved making posters and banners, and people are making baked goods for tomorrow,” said Collins.

Bing, too is proud of their efforts, and the way the community has come together to help people whose lives have been affected by cancer.

“We’ve got teacher teams, family teams, student teams, local business teams, community teams,” he said.  “It’s a fun event for a great cause.”

Come out Friday night to cheer on Team “ADMIN ANGELS OF HOPE” at Bloomfield High School, where approximately 2,000 participants will gather for an evening of hope and remembrance. 7:00 pm – Midnight.
