Slick Roads and Slush Today

Schools have 90-minute delayed opening; NWS issues hazardous weather advisory.

It's a slushy mess out there today.

Bloomfield schools had a 90-minute delayed opening this morning due to slick roads caused by freezing rain that fell last night. After-school activities are still scheduled for later today.

Less than 2 inches of snow fell in the area beginning around midnight, then changed to freezing rain and sleet at around 3 a.m., Livingston Patch has reported.

The National Weather Service has issued a hazardous weather advisory  for today. Freezing rain is expected through the morning and may change to rain as temperatures rise after noon. Travel on roads throughout the day, however, is expected to be hazardous due to ice.

People are urged to remove all snow and ice from their vehicles before driving. Motorists can be fined $25 to $75 for failing to do so under a new law that went into effect in October.
