OXFORD, Pa. (October 1, 2011) - Bloomfield forward Christine Rutherford (North Arlington, N.J.) set two program records with a four-goal, two-assist performance Saturday afternoon, as the women's soccer team moved to 2-7 overall with an 8-0 road victory over non-conference opponent Lincoln University.
Rutherford opened the Lady Deacons' scoring barrage by assisting on the team's first goal of the afternoon, feeding Jocelyn Prescott (Cherry Hill, N.J.) to put the visitors up 1-0 in the third minute of play. Prescott returned the favor just two minutes later, assisting Rutherford's second goal of the season to put Bloomfield up a pair.
Junior Katie Reale (Southampton, N.J.) notched her first goal of the season off Rutherford's second assist of the day in the eighth minute, putting the Lady Deacons out in front 3-0. Rutherford's second goal of the match followed in the 26th minute off a pass from freshman Stephany Cunha (Wallingford, Conn.), and Cunha notched her first career goal in the 39th minute off a through ball from Ruth Joacin (Jouy-Le-Moutier, France) to move the lead to 5-0.
Sophomore Mikie Bradley (Jackson, N.J.) tallied her fifth goal of the season on an unassisted strike in the early stages of the second half, moving the cushion to 6-0. Rutherford would complete her hat trick in the 66th minute on an unassisted goal to move the lead to 7-0, but it was her final tally of the day in the 82nd minute that turned the afternoon into a record-setting performance. The strike brought her total to four goals on the day, a new Bloomfield College single-game record for the Division II Era, and brought her total points in the contest to 10, also a new club record.
The Lady Deacons totaled 29 shots and six corner kick opportunitues, while keepers Katrina Guevara (North Plainfield, N.J.) and Robyn Burton (Capitol Heights, Md.) each totaled two saves apiece to combine for the shutout victory.
"Christine was outstanding today, and I'm very proud she was able to set those new marks," Bloomfield head coach Katie Egan said. "She works extremely hard and is a tremendous leader for our team, and she has turned herself into a truly great player. We played well as a team today, and were able to get our first shutout of the season. We got back on the right track, so hopefully we can keep moving in the right direction."

MENS SOCCER BOX SCORE
PURCHASE, N.Y. (October 1, 2011) - Bloomfield senior forward Terry Gibbs (London, England) notched the first hat trick of his career Saturday afternoon, as the men's soccer team cruised to an 8-1 victory over CACC rival Concordia College to move to 2-5-1 overall and 1-2-1 in CACC play.
Gibbs got the Deacons on the board early in the match, sliding into the box to finish a cross from sophomore Claude Allen (Kingston, Jamaica) to put the visitors up 1-0 in the fifth minute of play. The senior assisted Bloomfield's second goal of the day, feeding Juan Ramirez (Medellin, Columbia) for his fifth goal of the season to put Bloomfield up a pair in the 10th minute. Allen would strike with an unassisted goal in the 14th minute to continue the barrage, and Edgar Aguilar (Bayonne, N.J.) would put the Deacons up 4-0 with an unassisted tally in the 37th minute.
After a Concordia goal by Richard Heredia concluded the first half and cut Bloomfield's lead to 4-1, junior Jeffrey Dapaah (Newark, N.J.) notched his first goal of the season off an assist from Aguilar to move the advantage to 5-1 in the 57th minute.
Gibbs would notch his second goal of the day just two minutes later on Aguilar's second assist of the match, putting Bloomfield up 6-1 with 30 minutes to play. Nana Boakye(Accra, Ghana) notched a goal off a cross from Momar Diop (Union City, N.J.) to increase the lead to six in the 71st minute, and Gibbs capped the onslaught by completing his hat trick in the final minute of play on a breakaway goal to give the Deacons their eighth goal of the afternoon.
Allen finished with a goal and an assist on the day, while Aguilar finished with four points of his own in the victory. The Deacons outshot Concordia 17-9 in the contest, with sophomore keeper Daniel Hyde (East Orange, N.J.) picking up the victory with three saves in net.
"It was good to see the offense have a productive day," Bloomfield head coach Peter-John Falloon said. "We had offense from a lot of different players, which is good to see. We are starting to find our rhythm as a team, and starting to play more consistent from match to match. Hopefully we can keep this type of solid play going as we move forward."
WOMENS VOLLEYBALL
BLOOMFIELD, N.J. (October 1, 2011) - Bloomfield's women's volleyball team dropped to 4-8 overall and 3-6 in conference play Saturday afternoon, as they fell to CACC rival Chestnut Hill College and non-conference opponent LeMoyne College in both legs of a home tri-match.
In the opening match of the day, the Lady Deacons took a commanding lead over the visiting Griffins of Chestnut Hill by taking the first two sets of the match. Junior setter Allison Hart (Pagosa Springs, Co.) began the match with five consecutive service aces to give Bloomfield a 6-1 lead, allowing the home team to pick up a 25-18 victory in set number one. It was more of the same in the second set, as the Lady Deacons held on in a seesaw battle to take a 25-23 victory and put the Griffins on the brink.
But Chestnut Hill would rally to take a decisive 25-12 victory in the third set to avoid the sweep, and win a nail-biting set of their own with a 25-23 victory in the fourth frame to force a decisive fifth set. With a conference victory in the balance, it was the Griffins who completed the three-set comeback, taking the final stanza 15-5 to earn the 3-2 match victory and leave the Lady Deacons 0-1 on the afternoon.
Bloomfield would earn a similar fate against LeMoyne in the final match of the day, coming up on the short end of a 3-0 decision to move their non-conference record to 1-2 on the season. The Dolphins were able to take the opening set 25-19, and took the following two frames by 25-13, and 25-14 scores to earn the sweep.
Sophomore Dominic Spivey (Newark, N.J.) led the Lady Deacons with 18 kills in the loss to Chestnut Hill, while Chereese Sheen (Queens, N.Y.) posted the highest kill total of her Bloomfield College career with 16.
Da'Cheray Thomas (Newark, N.J.) rounded out the offensive attack with 11 kills, while Brandi Bodin (Clara City, MN) led the defensive effort with a team-high 28 digs. Daliana Perez (Jersey City, N.J.) totaled a season-high 19 digs, while Thomas contributed 12 digs in the setback. Hart finished with a career-high 10 servic aces in the loss.
