Studio Montclair’s 17th Annual Open Juried Exhibition, “ViewPoints 2014,” features the work of one hundred national and international artists reflecting the diversity of interests and concerns that characterize art and life today. The exhibition will run from June 4 to 28, 2014, at Aljira, a Center for Contemporary Art, the exhibition co-sponsor, located at 591 Broad Street, Newark, New Jersey. An opening reception and award ceremony will be held on Saturday, June 7, 2014 from 6-9pm.
Referring to a description of the current art world as a "massive tapestry interwoven with the threads of many artists," juror Sue Scott, independent curator, writer, art consultant and founder of Sue Scott Gallery, says this exhibition "offers the opportunity to understand just how pulsating, alive, and varied this tapestry is." With artists from Montclair and many NJ towns well represented, the exhibit also features artists from the 16 other states and one from the United Kingdom. The juror has done a remarkable job in assembling varied viewpoints which use a vast variety of mediums, from traditional oil on canvas and photography, to glass, iron, digital photos, collage, concrete, found objects, yarn and fabric. There are constructions and deconstructions, intensely personal works and those that make environmental statements. The show is a must see to engage your point of view!
