Free Adult School Classes Tuesday Nights at Carteret

Carteret Elementary School invites members of the community to participate in the new Adult School evening program, held every Tuesday night at 6:30 pm for the next three weeks: March 13, 20 and 27.

The four classes offered are Fitness Fun (Zumba), English as a Second Language (ESL), Computers, and Parental Involvement. Participants can take up to 2 classes a night. Babysitting will be provided by the Key Club from Bloomfield High School.

Carteret staff members encourage the community to get involved in this enrichment opportunity.

“This is a wonderful opportunity which encourages parents and community members to be involved within our elementary school while improving themselves,” said Carteret teacher Amy Konzelmann.  

“We are offering free babysitting where the Bloomfield High School Key Club students volunteer to play games and watch the kids. We hope to continue to be role models for our children and to bring awareness that learning and trying something new can be achieved at any age.”

“It is the first time we are offering this program and we have been getting a pretty good response,” Caretert Principal John Baltz told Patch.  He added that residents can still register for classes.

“Zumba is a great way to get fit while having fun,” said Konzelman. “Many of our parents and community members want to learn to speak English so they can take English as a Second Language to hone their English-speaking skills.”

She added that the computer classes offered could also be very useful to parents.

“With all of the Bloomfield School district’s new online initiatives, parents can come and learn how to access all of the wonderful information online about their child during the computers class,” she said. “And finally, parents can get informed about the NJ ASK (state testing) during the parental involvement class.”

Fitness Fun

Join us as we dance our way to better fitness.  Let’s shimmy and shake off some pounds to motivating Latin rhythms and beats.  Our class will be similar to a beginner Zumba class, incorporating basic dance steps and exercise movements. Come exercise, have fun, and get to know our Carteret Family in a relaxed, carefree environment.  

Vengan mejorar la salud! Permiten que les ayudemos a bailar y bajar libras con ritmos latinos. Nuestra clase será semejante a una clase del principiante Zumba, integrando pasos básicos de baile y movimientos de ejercicio. We here at Carteret are offering free English classes for parents and guardians of our Carteret children who wish to improve their English Language.  Come one, come all from beginners to more advanced.

Learn how to utilize the Bloomfield homepage and all of its resources to help your child succeed. This class will show you how to access your child's grades through easy grade pro, finding your child's class Homework Now site and utilizing it, understand star testing and website resources, accelerated reader resources, plus Carteret's homepage to find important updates and academic resources to assist your child.

Aprenda cómo utilizar la página principal de Bloomfield y todos sus recursos para ayudar a su hijo/a tener éxito. Esta clase le mostrará cómo conseguir acceso a los grados de su hijo/a por "Easy Grade Pro", encontrando y utlizando la pagina de "homework now" de la clase de su hijo/a, comprende los recursos de "Star Testing" y "Accelerated Reader", y entender la página principal de Carteret para encontrar informacion importante y recursos académicos para ayudar a su niño.

Course: Parental Involvement: The Foundation of Student Success

Involved parents positively influence their child’s chances of success. Carteret School is offering this course to help parents gain a better understanding of how they can become participants in their child’s education. Parents will have the opportunity to become familiar with the strategies and tools being used to educate their children and how this can also been applied at home.

Course will offer: understanding of NJASK, STAR Testing, Homework Now, Accelerated Reader, and tutoring. Parents will also gain knowledge of Reading and Math strategies that can be applied at home as well as tips for homework and studying help.

Los padres dedicados influyen positivamente a sus hijos de tener exito. La Escuela de Carteret ofrece este curso para ayudar a los padres ganar una mejor comprensión de cómo pueden llegar a ser participantes en la educación de su hijos. Los padres tendrán la oportunidad de llegar a ser familiarizado con las estrategias necesarias para educar sus niños y cómo se pueden aplicar en casa. El curso ofrecerá: comprendiendo de NJASK, las pruebas STAR (STAR TESTING) , la tarea, el programma "Accelerated Reader" (Lector Acelerado), y clases particulares .
