Heroin, Cocaine Charges Filed Against Toms River Residents In Brick Township: Police

Brick Township officers charged 4 Toms River residents and 2 Brick residents with drug offenses in the past week, police said.

BRICK, NJ — Brick police arrested six people on drug charges the week of Aug. 14 after several incidents in the township, a news release said.

Police shared information about arrests in three separate instances from the week of Aug. 14.

The first was when Street Crimes Unit detectives saw a drug deal in the parking lot of Walgreens on Route 88 on Aug. 16 at 6:20 p.m., police said. A 34-year-old Brick woman went to buy cocaine from two Toms River residents inside a car, police said.

Louis Whittington and Shaqunda Calhoun, both 35, were charged with possession with intent to distribute cocaine, possession of cocaine, distribution of cocaine, and drug paraphernalia. Officers took Whittington and Calhoun to the Ocean County Jail.

The Brick woman, Ashley Kamaris, was charged with loitering to obtain a controlled dangerous substance (CDS), possession of a controlled dangerous substance, possession of paraphernalia, being under the influence, and hindering apprehension. Police released her on a summons.

On Aug. 18, Brick officers responded to Quick Check on Route 70 at 10:40 a.m. because someone had reported disorderly people there who may be under the influence of drugs.

Police found two people who had "a residue in (their) nostrils." They arrested Joseph Karcich, 53, and Dina Karcich, 55. The Toms River residents were charged with possession of heroin, amphetamine, Oxycontin, drug paraphernalia, and being under the influence of a controlled dangerous substance, police said. Officers took Karcich and Karcich to the Ocean County Jail.

Officers arrived to a landlord-tenant dispute on Aug. 19, and stopped a man who they say "attempted to toss a glass pipe containing crystal methamphetamine" out of his car and resisted arrest while they were investigating.

Christopher Sherril, 45, of Brick had "four different types of pills and drug paraphernalia" in his possession, police said.

Police charged Sherill with three counts of possession of a CDS, two counts of possession of a prescription legend drug, resisting arrest, hindering apprehension, possession of paraphernalia, disorderly conduct, and motor vehicle violations. He was processed and released on a summons, police said.
