Brick Man Remembered For Love Of Family

BRICK, NJ — A Brick Township man is being remembered for his love of his family and love of sports in the wake of his death this week.

Terence M. "Terry" Whalen died Wednesday at his office in Parsippany-Troy Hills Township, where he was the tax collector, police said.

Whalen, 59, had been Parsippany's tax collector since 2008, according to his LinkedIn profile.

Parsippany Mayor Pulkit Desai called Whalen's death "a heartbreaking loss."

"He was a good man, a dedicated employee, and someone who spent many years serving our community alongside his colleagues and friends," Desai said. "There are people who quietly come to work every day, do their job, serve their community, and become part of the fabric of this Township. He was one of those people."

Whalen had lived in Brick for 31 years with his wife, Polly, and their children, according to his obituary on the O'Brien Home For Funerals website. He coached Brick Memorial Pop Warner football and was a fan of the New York Giants, Knicks and Rangers, the Boston Red Sox, and Notre Dame.
