The victims were located through a search and rescue operation involving NJSP Marine Services Bureau, NJSP Aviation, U.S. Coast Guard, and NYPD.

“Although the cause of the vessel capsizing is currently under investigation, the strong currents at the time of the incident may have been a contributing factor,” New Jersey State Police said in a statement.

The New Jersey State Police Crime Scene Unit Central, Fatal Accident Unit and Major Crime Unit responded to assist at the scene.

The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
