BREAKING: Two Dead After Boat Capsizes At Jersey Shore

A pontoon boat carrying seven people flipped over near Point Pleasant beach Friday. Two people died.

BREAKING UPDATE:

New Jersey State Police say two people died after the boat they were on capsized in the Manasquan Inlet on Friday.

Authorities were notified at 1:30 p.m. that a pontoon boat capsized in the Manasquan Inlet in Manasquan Boro, Monmouth County.

Seven people were on the boat that tipped over. Two were pronounced dead. Four were taken to Ocean Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries and one victim refused medical treatment, police said.

Alex Osadchy, 66, and Grigory Klokishner, 74, both of Philadelphia, died in the accident, authorities announced late Friday night. “Based on the preliminary investigation, the boat capsized due to a large swell. As a result, all seven occupants entered the water,” New Jersey State Police said.

The victims were located through a search and rescue operation involving NJSP Marine Services Bureau, NJSP Aviation, U.S. Coast Guard, and NYPD.

“Although the cause of the vessel capsizing is currently under investigation, the strong currents at the time of the incident may have been a contributing factor,” New Jersey State Police said in a statement.

All seven occupants on the vessel were males.

The New Jersey State Police Crime Scene Unit Central, Fatal Accident Unit and Major Crime Unit responded to assist at the scene.

The investigation into the incident is ongoing.

Seven people were rescued Friday afternoon after the pontoon boat they were riding in capsized in the Manasquan Inlet, numerous reports say.

All of the boat’s occupants went overboard around 1:30 p.m., NJ.com reported. The passengers on the boat, which was at least 30 feet long, were rescued from the 53-degree water and taken to local hospitals in unknown conditions, NJ.com reported.

An eyewitness told NBC News that while she did not see exactly what caused the boat to capsize, there were large swells in the ocean Friday.

Several boaters were reportedly out enjoying the unseasonably warm temperatures.

Multiple helicopters, including NYPD, and several New Jersey Coast Guard boats responded to the scene, NBC News reported.
