Brick Joins Nixle Alert Network

Residents can now get emergency and community notifications sent right to their phones.

Brick Township has joined the Nixle network.

Nixle is a mass communications system used by many government entities to supply information to residents in real time, and is used by a number of surrounding communities in Ocean County, as well as the county sheriff’s office. The township and the police department will use it to alert residents in real-time for localized emergency situations and relevant community advisories, township officials said.

“We are proud of our efforts to keep the citizens of Brick Township well informed about their government and what is going on in town,” Mayor John Ducey said. “This service will enhance our ability to contact residents, especially in times of emergency. I encourage all residents to sign up for these alerts.”

“This system will allow us to quickly disseminate vital information to residents in times of crisis,” Deputy Chief of Police James Riccio said. “When other means of communication are down we will still be able to reach you through your mobile device.”

Any resident who wishes to sign up for the service can text their ZIPCODE to 888777 from their mobile phones and they are automatically registered. Once registered, residents will receive a confirmation text to their mobile device.

Residents may also customize their alert settings by going to www.nixle.com and creating a User Profile. Residents can customize what alerts they receive and how they receive them such as SMS, email or voice messages.

Residents can also click on the Nixle tab on the Brick Township website, www.bricktownship.net to register.

Nixle was founded in 2009 and was built for government to provide secure, reliable, and relevant information to residents in real-time. More than 7,200 agencies around the United States use Nixle, and its partnerships with NLETS, Google and the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children allow local police departments nationwide to send immediate alerts and advisories.
