Brick Man Facing Drug, Switchblade Charges Has Ties To Vermont Heroin-Cocaine Case

He is being held at the Monmouth County jail on a U.S. Marshals Service detainer, according to jail records.

HAZLET, NJ — A Brick Township man arrested in Hazlet recently on drug and weapons charges has ties to a Vermont drug bust from 2015, according to records and reports.

Timothy Kran, 39, of Georgia Drive, Brick, was arrested Nov. 21 charged with possession of heroin, possession of suboxone without a prescription, possession of Valium without a prescription, possession of a weapon, possession of an unlawful weapon and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and possession of drug paraphernalia, according to the criminal complaint released by the Monmouth County prosecutor's office.

Hazlet police say Kran had three wax folds of heroin, 17 units of suboxone, 12 Valium pills, and a stiletto switchblade knife. Kran also had two hypodermic syringes, a crack pipes and seven empty wax folds that had contained heroin, police said.

His bail was set at $47,000 full by Judge Joseph Defino, according to the complaint.

But records of the Monmouth County Correctional Institution show Kran also has a detainer from the U.S. Marshals Service that prevents him from being released on bail.

The Lakewood Scoop reported in October 2015 that a Timothy Kran had been arrested in Lakewood in connection with a warrant out of Vermont in connection with "serious drug charges" in a case there.

Kran was one of 12 defendants indicted in that case, which an FBI news release said was a major heroin and cocaine ring operating in Vermont and New Jersey. Its two ring leaders, Miguel Zayas and Lamar Carter, both had ties to New Jersey, the FBI news release said.

Kran was initially not named in the case; his indictment remained sealed when the FBI announced the charges, but Kran's name was revealed after his arrest in October 2015, according to court documents in the case.

An October 20, 2015 court order from federal court in New Jersey published on the Leagle.com website shows Kran was allowed to enter a drug treatment facility as part of pretrial motions in a case overseen by U.S. Attorney Paul Fishman.
