Brick Man Killed In Head-On Route 70 Crash In Pemberton: Police

PEMBERTON TOWNSHIP, NJ — A Brick Township man was killed Monday night in a head-on crash on Route 70, Pemberton Township police said Tuesday.

Matthew A. Ziegler, 41, of Brick, was driving a 2009 Mazda 3 east on Route 70 just before 10 p.m. when his car was hit by a 2018 Toyota Highlander driven by Ruthann Demarco-Williams, 63, of New Castle, Delaware, Pemberton Township Lt. Brian Smith said in a news release.

Demarco-Williams was driving west and crossed the center double line, Smith said.

Thomas H. Rekemeier Jr. 52, of Waretown, who had been driving east on Route 70 in a 2006 Peterbuilt 357 dump truck, witnessed the crash and tried to stop to avoid it but hit the front end of Demarco-Williams' Highlander, he said.

Ziegler was pronounced dead at the scene. Demarco-Williams was airlifted to Capital Health System in Trenton for treatment. Rekemeier was not injured, and all three were wearing seatbelts, Smith said.

The collision is still under investigation and no summonses have been issued at this time, Smith said.
