Mayor Stephen C. Acropolis said Tuesday that during a time when their profession has come under more scrutiny than ever, teachers who go the extra mile and do their best deserve to be recognized.
In Brick, the teacher that fits that mold is Nancy Evans, who was honored at Tuesday's township council meeting after being named Brick's teacher of the year.
"It is an honor to be recognized in a profession that I feel so passionately about," said Evans, who has taught special education classes and Excel classes at Osbornville elementary school.

Evans, a veteran teacher of 24 years, said receiving recognition at the meeting couldn't have come on a better night; she ran into one of her students at the meeting, as well as Brick Township High School Principal Dennis Filippone, with whom she completed her student teaching assignment years ago.
