Brick Police Part Of Route 35, 37 DUI Patrols This Weekend

The two main roads will be the focus of enforcement as the county prepares for the St. Patrick's Day parade on Saturday.

BRICK, NJ — Brick Township police will be among the departments participating in a targeted drunk and impaired driving enforcement detail this weekend that will focus on Route 37 and Route 35.

But it's not just drunk or impaired drivers who could face tickets; if you're speeding, running red lights, tailgating or otherwise driving unsafely, you could get a ticket, too, officials said.

The enforcement detail was announced by Ocean County Prosecutor Joseph D. Coronato on Thursday and comes as the county gears up for the annual Ocean County St. Patrick's Day Parade, set for Saturday, March 10 in Seaside Park and Seaside Heights.

The announcement from Coronato's office said the enforcement will cover Route 35 from Point Pleasant Beach to Seaside Park, and Route 37 from Seaside Heights to Manchester and will begin Friday.

"This initiative is a proactive effort to prevent accidents and address traffic violations throughout the area," said Al Della Fave, spokesman for the prosecutor's office. "This is a multi-jurisdictional effort."

Della Fave said the officers are instructed to strictly and aggressively enforce the DUI statute, as well as those where the behavior frequently contributes to crashes.

"These causes include, but are not limited to, driving while under the influence, aggressive driving, improper/unsafe turning, failing to yield, failing to keep right, improper passing, inattentive driving, disregard of traffic signals, excessive speed, following too closely," he said, along with various commercial carrier violations such as overweight, equipment maintenance and inadequate brake pressure.

So, don't drink and drive. Don't speed. Don't tailgate. Don't text and drive. And obey the laws.
