Brick Police Want To Talk To Anyone Man Accosted At Sports Complex
Police say they have increased patrols but need more information from witnesses.

Brick Township police say they located a man fitting the description of a white male with a backpack was accosting children at the Drum Point Sports Complex over the weekend, and it’s someone familiar to the department.
But police need to speak directly with anyone who came in contact with the man, Detective Sgt. Henry Drew of the Brick Police Department said Monday.
Word went out to sports organizations that use the complex, and through email and social media they warned parents that a white male with a backpack had followed two children as they walked to Pasquale’s Pizza in Drum Point Plaza, asking them if they needed a ride.

“The male was persistent in trying to talk with the children; the children eventually ran from the male and back to the lacrosse teams playing at the turf to report the incident,” wrote Tom Bell, president of the Twin County Soccer Association, one of the groups that uses the complex. Bell said there had been other reports that the man had approached children, offering them cigarettes and trying to talk with them.

Drew said officers responded to a report of a suspicious male subject at the complex about 11 a.m. Saturday, Drew said, after a third party reported a man was asking several juveniles if they “needed a ride,” “where they lived,” and “if they wanted cigarettes.”’
But because the complaints came from a third party, and not from someone who spoke with the man, Drew said, police need to talk to anyone who was directly approached by the man.
Drew said the investigation is continuing, and patrols of the area have been increased.
