Brick School Board Sets Special Meeting For July 27
The meeting will likely focus on the district's plan to address a $720,507 cut in state funding; the agenda will be posted next week.

BRICK, NJ — The Brick Township Board of Education has scheduled a special meeting for Thursday, July 27, at the district's administration offices at the Veterans Memorial school complex.
The meeting begins at 6 p.m. in the Professional Development Center at 101 Hendrickson Ave., according to a post on the district's website.
The agenda for the meeting has not been posted yet, but it is likely to include measures to cut $720,507 from the district's 2017-18 school budget. The cut is a result of the reduction in school funding from the state, a cut made by state Sen. Stephen Sweeney and Assembly Speaker Vincent Prieto as they negotiated a deal on the state budget with Gov. Chris Christie.

When the school board met July 13, district officials were awaiting final word from the state Department of Education on both the amount and direction on how they could address it. That information apparently was distributed late Friday afternoon; Toms River school officials on Wednesday night said they received the information about 5 p.m. on July 14.
Districts have until Aug. 1 to file their plans with the state Department of Education for the revised state aid — either cuts or additional aid received, Doering told the Toms River school board.
