Brick Township Honored For Efforts To Support Veterans, Military

BRICK, NJ — As the towns and the state honored veterans last week, Brick Township received an honor for its efforts to honor veterans.

The township received the "We Value Our Veterans" Community Award during ceremonies on Veterans Day at the New Jersey Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Holmdel, officials said.

"This award is given to municipalities within the state that show a high regard and respect for veterans," officials said in announcing the honor.

Brick Township has undertaken a number of efforts to honor its veterans and its military in the last few years.

At Windward Beach Park, banners were installed in 2018 that honor military members who were killed in action or died as a result of wounds suffered in combat. Read more: New Banners Honor Brick's Fallen Military Heroes

Brick also renovated the war memorial in front of the Brick Township municipal building; those projects have been the pet focus of Council President Lisa Crate.

Brick Township Mayor John G. Ducey accepted the award on behalf of the township at the statewide Veterans Day service in Holmdel.

Brick Township annually honors its war dead with a Memorial Day ceremony and honors its service members on Veterans Day.

"Mayor Ducey and the Council thank all veterans for their service and further thank the entire community for their support of those who have served and who helped make this recognition possible," the township said in a Facebook post announcing the award.
