Brick Traffic Hassles Prompt Changes To Mantoloking Road Paving

After a week of extensive traffic backups affecting both Mantoloking and Drum Point roads, officials have made adjustments.

BRICK, NJ — After a week of traffic issues caused by the milling and paving project on Mantoloking Road, changes in the project have been made to try to ease some of the headaches that have vexed morning commuters in particular.

Brick Township Police Chief James Riccio and the police department's Traffic Safety Unit, Township Business Administrator Joanne Bergin, the Ocean County Sheriff’s Department and the Ocean County Road Department met Monday to discuss the project, in part because of the issues it has caused on Drum Point Road.

Starting Tuesday, the milling portion of the project will be done from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and will continue Wednesday and Thursday if needed.

Mantoloking Road will remain open with alternating traffic in place in the westbound lane.

"For a short period of time, Hooper Avenue turn lanes and Cedar Bridge Avenue through lanes for Mantoloking Road will be diverted as the project begins," a news release from the police department said. School buses will be permitted to enter neighborhoods.

The paving portion of the project will begin Monday, Oct. 1 at 9 p.m. and continue throughout the night until about 5 a.m.

"Once again, traffic will be alternating and in some cases diverted," police said.

Motorists are being asked to try to avoid Mantoloking Road as much as possible while until the project is completed, which authorities anticipate will be by Wednesday, Oct. 3 into Oct. 4, weather permitting.

"We ask that residents use caution, be patient and if a flagger asks you to stop, please obey their commands," police said.

Brick Township police and Ocean County sheriff's officers will be monitoring the construction zone for traffic issues.

"Expect delays and avoid Mantoloking Road if possible. Save time and plan an alternate route," police said.
