Cell Phone-Distracted Driver Hits Teen Walking On Brick Sidewalk: Police
The teen was thrown and suffered a serious leg injury, police said.

BRICK, NJ -- A 16-year-old girl is being treated for a serious leg injury after she was hit by a car whose driver was distracted by a cell phone, Brick police said Tuesday.
The teen was walking on the sidelwalk along Sally Ike Road near Lanes Mill Road about 12:45 p.m. when she was hit by the car driven by Vicki Asaro, 55, of Brick, Sgt. Neal Pedersen said.
Asaro was southbound on Sally Ike and was in the process of making a right turn onto Lanes Mill when she was distracted by the phone, Pedersen said. When Asaro looked down at her cell phone, her car hit the curb and a street sign before hitting the teen, Pedersen said.

The girl was thrown several feet and suffered a leg injury, he said. She was taken to Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune, by Brick Township Police first and and medics, for treatment, he said.
Asaro was issued summonses for careless driving and operating a vehicle while using her cell phone. Officer Christopher Geskey is investigating the crash.
