Downed Utility Poles Disrupt Morning Traffic In Brick, Lakewood

Three crashes brought down poles, with one completely blocking the road, police said.

BRICK, NJ — Motorists in Brick and Lakewood were faced with detours Monday morning as three accidents brought down utility poles in the area.

Brick police were dealing with two crashes that happened apparently within minutes of each other, one on Beaverson Boulevard between Shorrock Street and Lionshead Boulevard, and the other on Van Zile Road near Barrett Walk. The department issued Nixle alerts about the two crashes within minutes of each other about 4:30 a.m.

Beaverson Boulevard was shut down, police said, and remained closed as of 9 a.m.

The Van Zile alert said the pole and wires were across the road, forcing that to close.

In Lakewood, a utility pole was snapped in the area of New Hampshire Avenue and Route 70 west. Police said in a Nixle alert about 8 a.m. that the downed pole was causing delays.
