Driver Who Fled After Route 88 Road Rage Incident Charged With Eluding: Brick Police
Jonathan Weydig, 24, took off after police tried to pull him over; police said he and another driver were blocking Route 88 while arguing.
BRICK, NJ — A Point Pleasant man is facing multiple charges after he fled a traffic stop on Route 88 in Brick following a road rage incident, Brick police said Wednesday.
Jonathan Weydig, 24, of Point Pleasant, was arrested May 12 after detectives in the Brick Township Police Department's Street Crimes Unit saw the incident, Patrol Officer Victoria Finelli said.
The detectives saw a vehicle sitting in the road blocking traffic on Route 88 near Post Road while a man later identified as Weydig argued with another driver, Finelli said. The situation was creating a danger to motorists, she said.

Weydig started to get out of his vehicle in the road as detectives tried to pull him over, and after acknowledging their presence as police officers, Weydig got back in his vehicle and took off, Finelli said.
Police saw several motor vehicle violations as Weydig took off, she said, but he was arrested several hours later with the assistance of Point Pleasant police after authorities were able to find him through investigative measures.

Weydig had six outstanding warrants and was charged with eluding officers, obstruction and hindering apprehension, and was issued 12 motor vehicle summonses, Finelli said. He was taken to the Ocean County Jail and later released pending court proceedings.
