Eakfest In Brick This Weekend Offers Scary Fun, Raises Money For Cystic Fibrosis Research

BRICK, NJ — Eakfest, the annual Halloween festival and fundraiser for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, returns this weekend in Brick.

The festival will be held Friday, Oct. 21 and Saturday, Oct. 22 at VFW Post 8867 on Adamston Road in Brick.

It has fun and games to appeal to a variety of people, from its ghoul-free game room and carnival rides for kids, to hayrides, music, food, face painting, and a large variety of vendors. At dusk, the Haunted Trail, billed as the scariest haunt in the area, opens and runs until midnight.

This year, the event includes a card of wrestling matches through Jersey Premier Wrestling, which will put on several wrestling matches. That event is on Saturday at Eakfest.

Eakfest was created in 2009 to raise money for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation after one of the daughters of the family who started the event was diagnosed with the disease. CF is a life-threatening genetic disease that affects the pulmonary, digestive, reproductive and exocrine systems, the Eakfest website notes. It causes the body to produce extremely thick, sticky mucus that clogs all of the organs of the body making it hard if not impossible to breathe, produce enzymes to break down food, and produce the hormones needed for normal function. Once these organs clog, infections develop but because of the thick mucus, most medication can't get to the bacteria so it just grows and worsens eventually leading to organ damage and failure.

The costs are as follows:

• Hayrides: $5 (all ages)
• Ghoul-Free Game Room: $5 for 10 tickets
• Haunted Trail: $15 for adults, $5 age 10 and under, $20 EAKFAST Pass gets you to the front of the line (only 50 sold per hour)
• Jersey Premier Championship Wrestling: $15
• Haunted Trail and Wrestling combination: $25

Saturday's Jersey Premier Championship Wrestling at the event will feature a sanctioned Combat Zone Wrestling Dojo Wars Medal of Valor Contest between champion Mike Del and Josh Adams.
