BRICK, NJ — A fire in a garage area that was converted to a living space damaged a Brick Township home on Sunday evening, authorities said Monday.

There were no injuries reported. The cause of the fire is undetermined and remains under investigation, said Kevin C. Batzel, chief of the Brick Township Bureau of Fire Safety.

The fire on Davidson Avenue was reported shortly before 8 p.m. Sunday. Laurelton Fire Company responded, and as firefighters were en route, Brick's other volunteer fire companies were called in to assist.

Fire Chief Dave Bahrenburg found heavy smoke coming from the first-floor garage area and everyone was out of the home. Firefighters quickly knocked down the fire and it was contained to the garage, Batzel said.

Heavy smoke had to be vented from the rest of the home, he said. The fire department remained at the scene for two hours, he said.
