BRICK, NJ — Brick Township police are reminding residents about a program that allows emergency access for first responders when time is of the essence.

The program, called Project Safe Lock, is voluntary and has restrictions as to who can participate.

Brick Township police issue lock boxes on a case-by-case basis, evaluating factors such as the living arrangements, the age of the person, their physical conditions and medical status, police said.

Access to information about the lock boxes is limited for use only in situations such as a medical emergency where the person is unable to get to the door and unlock it, police said.

Those interested in the program can obtain an application form on the Brick Police website under "Forms," or pick one up at the Community Policing Office at the Brick Township Police Department during regular business hours.
