Man Accused Of Snapchat Rape Of Brick Woman Indicted
Zachary Madle has been named in two lawsuits that also allege Stockton University failed to address sexual assault on campus.

MAYS LANDING, NJ — A Wildwood man who has been accused of sexual assault in two lawsuits filed against him and Stockton University has been indicted on charges he posted video of an alleged assault to social media.
Zachary Madle, 25, was indicted by an Atlantic County grand jury on Thursday on two counts of invasion of privacy and one count of aggravated criminal sexual contact in a Feb. 15, 2017 incident in Galloway Township, First Assistant Prosecutor Cary Shill announced.
Authorities allege Madle recorded a video, without consent, of the inappropriate touching of a female victim and posted the video on Snapchat.

Those charges correspond to an incident that is the subject of a lawsuit brought against Madle and Stockton University in July, accusing Madle of rape and accusing Stockton officials of not pursuing the case after the victim, a Brick Township woman, reported it to Galloway police.
Madle is a Stockton graduate. The woman was a freshman at the time of the incident, which allegedly happened in her dorm room at Stockton.

In the lawsuit filed in federal court, the woman alleges Madle repeatedly to convince her to drink vodka he had snuck into the room. She alleges that when she got up to use the bathroom, he slipped a date rape drug into her drink. Her last memory before blacking out is of kissing Madle, according to the lawsuit. She woke up naked, confused and covered in vomit the next morning, according to the lawsuit, and discovered videos on Snapchat showing the man sexually assaulting her while she was unconscious. The woman contacted a friend, who helped her immediately report the assault to police and to Stockon University officials, including the residence hall manager and the university's Title IX coordinator, and campus police.
The woman underwent a sexual assault examination and DNA evidence from her body and bed sheets was provided, according to the lawsuit. When she insisted police be contacted, Stockton refused to further investigate the assault, the lawsuit said. Stockton police filed charges against Madle in April 2018, but only alleging invasion of privacy.
Madle was accused in a second lawsuit filed in August by a Netcong woman of raping her after she intervened when he was approaching one of her friends. That woman's lawsuit accuses Madle of choking and beating her in addition to rape.
In addition to the two lawsuits naming Madle, five other lawsuits have been filed alleging Stockton officials failed to properly investigate or take action in connection with sexual assault reports. The university has declined to comment on any of the cases, citing the litigation.
"Due to the pending litigation, we cannot comment and must refer all questions to the Attorney General's office, which is representing Stockton," Diane D'Amico, director of news and media relations for Stockton University, said in an email statement Friday when asked about the indictment of Madle.
The Atlantic County prosecutor's office said Prosecutor Aaron Witherspoon is in charge of the case.
