Man Held On $900K Bail In Shooting Of Toms River Man

The shooting in Lakewood left the victim with an arm injury, police said; the man was arrested in Monmouth County after a chase.

LAKEWOOD, NJ -- A Manchester Township man is being held in lieu of $900,000 bail in connection with the shooting of a Toms River man in Lakewood on Thursday afternoon, police said.

Todd Greene, 44, was arrested Friday afternoon, Lakewood police said. He was apprehended in Ocean Township, Monmouth County, by Ocean Township police and the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office after he tried to elude officers during a motor vehicle stop, police said. He was finally arrested after he tried to run away on foot and was chased down, police said.

Greene is charged in the incident that occurred around 3:30 p.m. in the area of Ashley Avenue and Martin Luther King Drive; the victim, a 35-year-old Toms River man, arrived at Monmouth Medical Southern Campus in Lakewood, with a wound to his arm that did not appear to be life-threatening, police said.

Further investigation by Charles Messer of the Lakewood Police Department Street Crimes Unit resulted in the recovery of two firearms from Greene’s vehicle, police said.

Greene has been charged with attempted murder, two counts of unlawful possession of a weapon -- a handgun, two counts of certain persons not to have weapons, possession of firearms for an unlawful purpose, and possession of a high-capacity magazine.

Additionally, Ocean Township police charged him with eluding and resisting by flight with an additional bail of $75,000 on those charges, Lakewood police said.
