Midstreams Bridge Expected To Fully Reopen This Week In Brick

The $4.6 million construction project that replaced a 55-year-old span started in late 2017 and is nearly finished.

BRICK, NJ — The end is near ... but in a good way: The Midstreams Bridge is anticipated to be open to two-way traffic by the end of this week, Ocean County officials have confirmed.

"We anticipate that the Midstreams Bridge will be open to two-way traffic by Friday, Feb. 22," Ocean County Engineer John Ernst said.

Ernst said there is some work being completed by New Jersey Natural Gas at the site and as soon as the work is completed, the span may be open.

"Should the utility company work be completed prior to Feb. 22, the span may be open earlier," he said. After the span itself is reopened to traffic, the contractor will be finishing up additional work at the construction site.

The $4.6 million construction project replaced a 55-year-old bridge span across the Beaver Dam Creek began in early November 2017 and was disrupted when the contractor, Midlantic Construction of Barnegat, discovered more extensive deterioration on the timber bulkheading and some on the concrete bridge supports.

One lane northbound on the bridge, going from Princeton Avenue toward Jordan Road, has been maintained through most of the project.
