BRICK, NJ — Brick Township beer lovers, rejoice: a new township ordinance approved Tuesday night has cleared the way for the township to become home to a microbrewery.
The ordinance, approved unanimously, will allow microbreweries to open in the township.
The microbrewery ordinance would permit businesses that produce fewer than 15,000 barrels of beer per year to operate in the township's B2 general business zone, the B3 highway development zone and the M1 light industrial zone.

Township officials said there have been no inquiries specifically about putting a microbrewery in town. But the trend of restaurants that offer craft beers has continued to grow in recent years.
A microbrewery is defined as one that produces fewer than 15,000 barrels of malt beverage, according to the ordinance, for consumption on site or for purchases of less than 15.5 liters.
