'Small' Redistricting Plan For Brick Schools Expected To Be Revealed
The Board of Education meets tonight, and details of the redistricting are expected to be presented then.

BRICK, NJ — Parents have been buzzing about plans for redistricting in the Brick Township School District for several weeks.
After weeks of discussions and meetings, details of those plans are expected to be revealed to the Brick Township Board of Education at its meeting tonight at 7 in the auditorium at Brick Township High School.
At the April 27 school board meeting, Dennis Filippone, the district's director of planning, research and evaluation, told residents that the plans under discussion were small, involving roughly 60 students and three schools: Midstreams, Herbertsville and Veterans Memorial Elementary.

Filippone said district administration had been meeting with staff and parents of all three schools and gathering their input.
In response to a question from Nick Cusanelli, the husband of former board member Karyn Cusanelli, Filippone said the district had been addressing overcrowding affecting one school by diverting newly registered students to the other two schools.

"We have very large class sizes" in some of the youngest grades and diverting newly registered students enabled the district to avoid hiring additional teacher's aides, Filippone said. New Jersey law requires a teacher's aide to be assigned to a classroom if the class size exceeds 24 students at the younger age groups, officials said.
