BRICK, NJ — As the cleanup continues from a fire in an apartment at the George Conway Towers, residents of two of the three buildings were being allowed to return to their homes as of Saturday evening.

Residents of Tower B are expected to be able to return to their apartments in five to 10 days, Forrester said.

The fire was reported at 10:22 p.m. Friday when multiple calls were made to 911 reporting heavy smoke in the building, which is home to low-income seniors and those with disabilities. The fire forced the evacuation of 130 residents, with 50 in temporary shelter overnight.

Three people were taken to the hospital, Forrester said, two with cardiac issues and one with minor burns and suffering from smoke inhalation. Two of the three people had been released from the hospital as of Saturday evening, but Forrester did not indicate which two.

He said the preliminary investigation into the cause of the fire indicates it was caused by careless use of smoking materials.
