UPDATE: 100-500 Remain Without Power Near Brick Memorial

Police on scene say JCP&L is on site and working to repair the lines

Between 100 and 500 homes remain without power in the area around Brick Memorial High School, after a power line came down and started a small fire near the high school, authorities are reporting.

On its outage website, First Energy Corp. -- parent company of Jersey Central Power & Light -- says between 101 and 500 customers in the area remain without power, with restoration of service estimated to be completed by 9:30 p.m.

Sgt. Henry Drew of the Brick Township Police Department said the wires came down sometime before 1:30 p.m. and caused a small fire near the school. It also caused school officials to order a shelter in place to ensure the students were safe, but school was dismissed at its normal time, Drew said.
