Sparta already has dumped up to a half-foot of snow in the Midwest as of early Sunday, according to weather.com.
Here’s what’s expected, according to the National Weather Service:
- Ice accumulations: One to two tenths, with the highest along the Interstate 95 corridor and lower in the Lehigh and western Raritan valleys.
- Snow accumulations: 1 to 4 inches in South Jersey and the Jersey Shore, 3 to 5 inches in the north
- Timing: Snow should overspread the area by early Sunday afternoon. A transition to sleet and freezing rain should start occurring during the late afternoon and spread north during the late evening. Precipitation will taper off overnight.
- Impacts: Expect slippery traveling and walking conditions to start developing on untreated surfaces Sunday afternoon and continuing Sunday night. Expect travel delays if driving. Isolated power outages possible.
- Temperatures: Expected to be in the mid 20s to around 30 while precipitation is occurring. They should remain below freezing overnight and Monday morning.
A winter weather advisory means that periods of snow...sleet or freezing rain will cause travel difficulties. Be prepared for slippery roads and limited visibilities, and use caution while driving, according to the NWS.
The NWS says please give yourself plenty of distance between yourself and all vehicles around you. Also give yourself extra time to reach your destination.
