Firefighters were monitoring the fire scene overnight Monday into Tuesday after it rekindled and had to be put out again.
The fire at 31 Bay Way, along the Kettle Creek, was reported about 3:30 p.m. and quickly spread to the house next door at 29 Bay Way due to the strong winds, Kelly said. Firefighters had to put out spot fires on at least one other property, he said, due to the wind spreading embers. (Photos of the fire can be seen here.)

All four Brick Township fire companies — Breton Woods, Pioneer Hose, Laurelton and Herbertsville — responded, and they were just starting to leave the scene about 7 p.m. Monday. The township also used its fire boat to spray from the lagoon off Kettle Creek to attack the fire. See the video by Jersey Shore Fire Response below.
In addition, the Point Pleasant Boro, Point Pleasant Beach, Silverton and East Dover fire companies responded, along with the police and the Brick Police EMS. Jackson and Lakewood covered the township’s firehouses while Brick Township’s fire and mutual aid companies worked to extinguish the fire. Jersey Central Power & Light and New Jersey Natural Gas also responded to shut off utilities.
Detectives from the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office and the Brick Police Department, along with the Brick Fire Safety Bureau, were investigating the fire, Kelly said.
