SOMERSET COUNTY, NJ — Almost a year since Hurricane Ida destroyed Somerset County, Representative Tom Malinowski announced $1.18 million in federal funding is coming to repair trails and roadways in the area.

The money is part of a grant awarded from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to pay for repairs to the Raritan River Greenway Trail and nearby roads, which were heavily damaged by last year’s storm.

"Somerset County experienced widespread damage from Hurricane Ida, and we’ve been working hard to restore public gems like the Raritan River Greenway Trail in Duke Island Park for our residents and visitors," said Somerset County Commissioner Shanel Y. Robinson. "We’re grateful to Congressman Malinowski and the Federal Emergency Management Agency for recognizing the financial burden it was for the County to make these major repairs and for reimbursing our local taxpayers $1.18 million towards this project."

"In the days following Ida, my office worked hard alongside FEMA to ensure my constituents received the support they needed to rebuild," said Malinowski. "I'm glad the administration recognizes the continued need almost one year later. On the road to recovery, I’ll be fighting for the flood control engineering projects that will protect New Jersey from this kind of devastation in the future."
